What
is Water Gardening?
Water gardening is using water in your landscape to create a peaceful,
relaxing place. This can be in the form of a pre-formed pond, liner-based
pond or fountain. Actually, any vessel can be used as long as it holds
water. Try an old pot - get a pump with fountain nozzle to add some water
movement, add some water plants, and voila!!! you have a water feature.
You can even add some fish.

| Water
gardening is becoming all the rage in gardening. With the stress of work
and long commutes, what better way to wind down than by sitting next to
your very own pond. Let the relaxing, soothing sounds of running water
ease your mind and take away the tension.
Water plants and
fish also add to the enjoyment of having a pond. And once there is water,
you will be amazed at all the wildlife that will visit. The frogs just
seem to appear out of nowhere. Birds of all kinds love water and will
see what bugs they can catch as well as splash in the water to cool off.
Dragonflies and damselflies also seem to arrive. |

it takes too much time to take care of a water garden/pond? If done properly,
you should spend no more than 5-10 minutes a week cleaning out your skimmer
bag of large debris and adding the "good" bacteria. Beats mowing
a lawn every week doesn't it? Water gardens are meant to enjoy, not labor
over all the time keeping them clean.
Worried about mosquitoes
and the "West Nile Virus"? Here's what you can do to keep mosquitoes
from breeding in your pond:
- Stock your pond
with fish. Many fish, including goldfish, koi, and mosquito fish like
to eat mosquito larve and will do so before they become adult mosquitoes.
- Mosquitoes usually breed in still, standing water, so keep the water
moving in your pond with a waterfall, or a fountain nozzle.
Taking these two simple measures will provide you with a safe, healthy
pond.
